Biography

Henry M. Karwowski concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, debtor/creditor rights, and commercial litigation.

Henry is an adjunct professor at Rutgers School of Law-Newark and at Seton Hall University School of Law. At Rutgers, he has taught Commercial Law, Debtor-Creditor Law, Appellate Advocacy, and Advanced Legal Writing.  At Seton Hall, he has taught Secured Transactions, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights, Business Associations, and Legal Writing; he has been nominated numerous times, most recently in 2020, for the annual Adjunct Professor of the Year Award.

Henry is the author of New Jersey Bankruptcy Rules Annotated, a comprehensive guide to the rules governing bankruptcy practice and procedure in New Jersey. The book was reviewed in the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal and New Jersey Lawyer Magazine. According to the Journal, it is “the best bankruptcy rules book in the country.”

Henry has served as a lecturer at the New Jersey Judicial College and the New Jersey State Bar Association Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference and for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education. 

Henry is a Contributing Author of the New Jersey Bankruptcy Manual (ICLE) and a frequent author of articles for periodicals such as the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal, New Jersey Lawyer, and the New Jersey Law Journal.

From 2012 to 2015, Henry served on the Local Rules Committee to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. From 2009 to 2013, Henry served on the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the same court.

In 1998-99, Henry served as a law clerk for the Honorable Rosemary Gambardella, Chief Judge, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. In 1997, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Rosemary Gambardella, the Honorable William F. Tuohey, and the Honorable Novalyn Winfield in the same court.
